Beginning education professionals must understand and enact professional roles and responsibilities as mandated reporters and comply with all laws concerning professional conduct and moral fitness, including the responsible use of social media and other digital platforms and tools. We will discuss much of these issues in our TED 400 class today - discussions of professional teacher dispositions, social media usage (cyber-bullying), legal issues in education, and Creative Commons (copyright laws). You will be required to (1) write up a summary of what you’ve learned in regards to these topics to demonstrate comprehension, (2) find one peer-reviewed professional journal article on each of the topics, (3) take the Mandated Reporter Educators Training online module and (4), email the summary and Certification of Completion Award to jsapp@csudh.edu.
In your paper, include the following:
_____A summary of Dispositions that is accompanied by at least one citation of a peer-reviewed article on Dispositions. Use this Handout.
_____A summary of Legal Issues in Education discussion that is accompanied by at least one citation of a peer-reviewed article on Dispositions. Use this Handout.
_____A summary of this article that introduces you to the school-to-prison-pipeline. Include one citation of a peer-reviewed article on issues around the school-to-prison-pipeline.
_____A summary of the Creative Commons PowerPoint here. This is accompanied by one citation as well.
_____Take the Mandated Reporter Educators Training at http://mandatedreporterca.com/training/educators.htm, and upload your Certification of Completion Award. It is fine for you to use the one you did in another course (the CDSS Mandated Reporter General Training). ANY certificate you already have done as a result of professional responsibilties is fine with me…as long as it is current.
Friends, don’t freak out about how to find citations and peer-reviewed journals. I would just go to https://scholar.google.com and search there. For instance, put in the search field “teacher dispositions” and a billion articles will pop up…sure, you might have to sift through them a bit, but you’ll very easily find one that works for you in a few moments. All while sitting right at home in your pajamas!
A quick Google of APA Format will garner you tons of examples oh how to cite references. Here is a quick guide to writing citations using APA.
